Picnic season

Whether simple or elaborate, picnics are a wonderful way to spend time with family or friends enjoying the lovely weather and seasonal goodies.

They are easy to carry, simple to eat, and adaptable to different tastes. Sandwiches are picnic headliners! Vary the bread, cheese, and deli meat for lots of original options!


Salads are cool and refreshing, especially on a hot summer day. For a more filling meal, plan on serving a grain-based salad (pasta, rice, couscous, quinoa, etc.) and a vegetable or fruit salad for added vitamins.


A nice blend of flavours, appetizers provide a change from traditional picnic fare. Prepare them ahead of time and surprise hungry picnickers with an original menu, from bruschetta to smoked salmon bites, and even bocconcini brochettes!

Enjoyed in their most basic form or served with dip, they're easy to transport and simple to eat. Be sure to have lots of different colours and textures that the kids will love!

To stay hydrated in a healthy, monotony-free way while picnicking, flavour your water! Just add your choice of fruit and fresh herbs.

Nordic shrimp salad

For an elegant picnic, stuff avocado halves with this salad! Prepare the avocado ahead of time. Cut the avocado in half and remove the pit. Put the pit back in, close the halves together, and store in an airtight container until ready to use. The pit will stop the avocado from turning black!

Pour a bag of your favourite prepared salad mix into a pretty salad bowl. Add some raspberries, blueberries, and grilled, sliced almonds. Drizzle with raspberry vinaigrette for the finishing touch.

Serve them with grilled tortillas and fresh veggies for a healthy picnic! Brush tortillas with oil and sprinkle them with salt. Cut each tortilla into 8 wedges and bake in the oven for a few minutes until crispy and golden brown.

Worry-free picnicking

To organize a most enjoyable picnic, here are three tips to consider when planning:
  1. Avoid mayonnaise; replace it with pesto, hummus, oil-based vinaigrettes, tapenades, or cheese spreads. 
  2. For drinks, bring lemonade or any other homemade beverage in Mason jars that can be used instead of glasses to drink from. 
  3. Use muffin tins or egg cartons as simple containers you can use to serve fruit or condiments on the table or picnic cloth.
